Turning scanned ruling pages into reviewable lines
On 22 October 2026, Dactelo completed a segmentation run over 2,236 page-processing entries and produced 57,402 line crops. Each crop retained its ruling, page and position. That connection lets a reviewer return from a difficult line to the surrounding page. The entry count includes overlapping processing selections and is not a count of distinct source pages.
The chosen method straightens the scan, separates ink from background and locates rows of text. It was faster on the available CPU than the tested neural baseline detector. A second method remained available for pages where the simpler approach failed.
Producing a crop does not verify its contents. Spot checks found table borders, blank fragments and clipped handwriting among otherwise useful lines. Those cases need filtering or repair. This milestone created review inputs and their provenance; it did not create 57,402 corrected transcriptions or release the underlying court pages.
