How does HTR differ from OCR?
OCR is a broad term for extracting text from images, and some services include handwriting under that name. Here, we use printed OCR for typeset pages and HTR for handwriting. Google’s documentation describes both document OCR and handwriting extraction.
Why do reviewed transcriptions matter?
A paired image and faithful text gives a model a concrete example. Review checks whether the text matches the source. Agreement alone does not make a guess correct, so Dactelo requires an explicit review decision.
How should a legal handwriting model be evaluated?
Dactelo’s evaluation approach keeps pages from the same ruling together rather than splitting closely related pages across training and evaluation. Results should state the test material, review method and error measure. This page reports no benchmark result.
Can a model replace reading the source?
No. A generated reading can be wrong. Check the source image and consult the authoritative legal source when relying on legal wording.
